Museum of New Mexico — Center for Museum Resources

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Conron & Woods collaborated with NCA Architects of Albuquerque to design this simple, classic building to house several distinct components of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Located in a residential neighborhood the building echoes its surrounding while serving the multiple needs of its program.

The design reflects a tradition of northern New Mexico design, the central courtyard concept. This permits sharing of resources and of connected spaces, while also providing for separateness of function and passage. Each tenant has a separate entry and work area. They may also take advantage of support spaces, meeting areas, parking and reception areas, as needed. The traditional efficiency of this design concept serves this complex of different but interrelated entities well. Proportions are gracious and the site has been subtly developed.
